Remembering Cleo Cleo Marie Rummel was born December 13, 1924 in Midland (Jones) County, South Dakota. Daughter of Charlotte and Arthur Holmes, deceased. Cleo attended first four years of school in a one room school near Hay Springs, Nebraska where her family lived on a farm, then went to school in Plains, MT when her family moved to Plains in 1935. [Text Box:] She met her future husband, Stanley (Sarge) Rummel in Plains in 1937. Started to date in the summer of 1941. They were married June 2, 1942 in Seattle, WA. She stayed in Seattle after Sarge went into the Service in October 1942 and worked for Boeing Air Craft Co. as a tool room clerk until they let everyone go in May 1945. She then went over to Sear Roebuck & Co. and worked in the mail order department until Sarge returned from the service November 21, 1945. She then returned to Sears in 1957 until 1974. Cleo was from a family of six: Blanche Ryer (Ray), both deceased, Larry Holmes (Lillian), of Napa, ID, Frank Holmes (June), of Sedro Woolley, WA, Angeline Halsey, deceased, and Marvin Holmes of Sedro Woolley, WA. Cleo had two sons, Wayne Dennis Rummel of Plains, Gale Byron Rummel of Tacoma, WA, and one daughter, Corrine Blakely of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren, Deanne Reinke (Bruce) of Forbes, ND, Jerry Blakely (Julie) of Coeur d Alene, ID, Dale Rummel (Mellissa) of Tacoma, Anthony (Michelle) Rummel of Florida, Timothy Rummel, deceased, and 13 great-grandchildren. Cleo and her husband moved back to Plains in April 1983. She is a member of the First Lutheran Church of Plains, the V.F.W. Auxiliary # 3596 of Plains, the Plains-Paradise Senior Citizens and she volunteered at the Clark Fork Nursing Home once a week to curl and style the ladies hair.
