It's so hard to lose someone so dear to you and then sum up their life in a paragraph for friends and family to read in his memory. When we think of our Dad we think of what a unique, hardworking, incredibly smart and talented man he was. He was a voracious reader all his life and seemed to know something about just any topic you could come up with. He excelled in the Army in his early 20's and went on to be a brilliant engineer with many inventions and patents to his name. He was a talented artist, a musician who loved to play the bagpipes, and a carpenter that could make or fix just about anything. As a hobby he thoroughly enjoyed working on and modifying his old Jeep and Buick into mechanical wonders. He accomplished so much in his lifetime and touched so many people from many walks of life. From the time we were children up until now, we remember him being very giving to those in need. Dad longed to live in the country and be surrounded by land, a river and wildlife. He finally achieved that dream and was able to really live out the last 6 months of his life in a place as close to Heaven as he could get until now. The last 6 months were the happiest we have ever seen him and he enjoyed every minute being with Sasha and their dogs Baloo, Baghera, Jessie, Mowgli and Izzy. He called them his furry children and loved walking with them around his new home. Dad loved the snow and gave us the snow report and sent pictures each week. He made a safe haven for the deer that visited his property so that they would not have such a rough time during the winter. And in return their visits made his heart happy. But his sweet heart overfilled and it just wasn't as strong as it used to be to hold all the happiness and joy. He left this world for a better place as his sweet dogs licked his face goodbye. Dad is sorely missed and survived by Sasha his sweet and faithful companion, his 5 grown children, Ted, Amy, Suzanne, Isaac (Liz) and Sarah and 6 grandchildren - Michael, Jackson, Aiden, Savannah, Justin and Brady. The family will have a private spreading of ashes in the Spring. In lieu of flowers please consider sending a donation made in memoriam of Ed Arlt to the animal shelter he supported and adopted Izzy from. http://www.pet-tracs.com
