Evelyn Cordeiro passed away at the age of 82 on Sept. 23, 2025.
She was born May 26, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York to Leon Cordeiro Sr. and Aurora Cordeiro (née Benoit).
Evelyn also lived in New Bedford, Massachusetts and Hialeah, Florida. As an adult, she lived in California and worked in the bank, dairy and retail industries. In Plains, she co-owned Mountain View Movies and the Plains Service Center.
During her nearly 40 years in Plains, Evelyn enjoyed trips into town, lunch with friends and visits from loved ones. She also enjoyed her dogs, hunting, maintaining her large lawn and spending time with family.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Leon Cordeiro II; her parents; sisters, Shirley Nelson and Eileen Averill; and beloved eldest daughter, Sheri Ann Dorathy.
She is survived by her son, Jerald York; daughter, Keri (Grant) Miller (née Dorathy); youngest brother, Leon Cordeiro III; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) York, Raegan (Jared) Boekenhauer (née Miller), and Wyatt (Natalie) Miller; companion, Orvall Kuester; and great-grandchildren, good friends and loved ones.
Evelyn’s wishes were to be cremated and interred alongside her family at Plains Cemetery. Any memorial that may occur will be handled by the family and will be a private affair.
