Everett Leroy Young

June 6, 1921 — February 13, 2016

Everett L Young, aged 94, passed away peacefully, in the company of his wife Nancy, at their home in Plains MT on Saturday, February 13th. A lifelong Montana resident, Everett was born and raised in the Great Falls area. He lived with his parents, Frank and Minnie Young on the family ranch, along with his brother Clarence and sister Lucille Ashby.

As a young man, he went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad, and then the Burlington Northern, as a trainman. His work took him to Helena and then Missoula, where he worked for most of his time except when it was temporarily interrupted at the onset of of WWII. He joined the army as a trainman and served 2 years in India running supply trains. His career spanned forty years, from which he retired as an engineer. Upon retirement he moved to Plains, Montana.

Everett had many interests throughout his life, most of which were centered around outdoor activities and being in the company of good friends and family. Fishing, hunting or just enjoying being in the outdoors were some of his most cherished times and helping others, especially youngsters, learn the skills necessary to enjoy those activities as well. But he also enjoyed spending time with friends over a cup of coffee, exchanging stories and maybe even an occasional role of the dice or a deck of cards - where permitted. In his later years when the trails got a little to steep and rough, he turned his interests to projects in his well equipped shop.

Everett is survived by his son Dwight Young (Joan) of Missoula; his brother Clarence (Dean)at the family ranch in Great Falls; his sister Lucille Ashby of Polson; his wife Nancy in Plains; her son Jim Petersen (Bridgett) of Missoula; her daughter Terry Knight (Kenny) of Frenchtown; her daughter Lisa Parker(Terry) of Missoula; nephews, nieces, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Everett's life will be held at 11am, Thursday February 18th, in Plains, MT at the Methodist Church, located at 210 W. Meany St. A reception will follow at the nearby VFW Club. In lieu of flowers, friends and family members are encouraged to make a contribution to a charity of their choice or a local VA chapter.
