Geraldine DeTienne
HOT SPRINGS- Geraldine Mae Woods DeTienne, 93, of Hot Springs went home to be with her Lord on Friday, September 25, 2026. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 21, 1933, in Camas MT to Ernest and Eleanor Woods and was the eldest of 5 children. She was raised primarily in the Lonepine area with some of her childhood years spent in Washington and California. At the age of 15, she began her first job at Cortner’s Corner in Hot Springs, marking the beginning of a strong work ethic that would remain a part of her character throughout her life.
On October 5th, 1952, she married Delmar DeTienne in Lonepine. The couple ranched in Hot Springs for a number of years and raised their family there. They then moved to Renton, WA where Gerry worked for Boeing Aircraft. After returning to Hot Springs, she was the clerk for the Hot Springs School District. The couple later moved to Scobey, MT where they lived for 4 years and she also worked for the school district as the administrative secretary. The pull of home eventually brought the family back to Hot Springs, where Gerry continued her life of service. She served as the administrator of the Hot Springs Manor for many years, dedicating herself to the residents and staff. After retiring from the Manor, she worked part-time at the Valley Bank.
Throughout their years together, Gerry and Delmar also gave back to their community by volunteering with the Hot Springs ambulance service. Gerry was a long term member of the Presbyterian Church, where anyone who had the pleasure of sitting near her knew she had the voice of an angel.
Gerry was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished her family above all else. Her greatest joy was spending time with the people she loved. She treasured family gatherings filled with card games, picnics, camping trips, and special holidays. She had a way of making every occasion memorable and always made sure everyone was cared for and felt loved. Her family was her greatest blessing, and she gave so much of herself throughout.
She is survived by her six children, Dianna Tande of Helena, Teresa DeTienne of Missoula, Mitchell DeTienne of Hot Springs, Lori DeTienne of Arlee, Don DeTienne of Hot Springs, and Linda (Chris) Cook of Plains; 17 precious grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren with another arriving soon, and one great-great grandson; her siblings Robert (Jeannine) Woods of Hot Springs, Don (Carolyn) Woods of Hot Springs, Linda (Herb) Holdorf of Missoula.
Gerry is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delmar, her parents, Ernest and Eleanor Woods, her brother Marvin Woods, and her granddaughter, Joscelyn Cook.
Funeral services to be held at the Presbyterian Church on October 10th at 2 p.m., followed by a graveside service at the Lonepine Cemetery. Please join us for a potluck meal at the Lonepine Hall to celebrate Gerry and share memories of her life at the conclusion of her services.
