Glenna Nadine Mayer

Glenna Kost Mayer was welcomed in Heaven on November 14, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Glenna was born on March 5, 1922 in Clayton, NM to Glenn and Irene Kost. She was the oldest of seven children. After spending most of her childhood on the family ranch outside of Clayton they moved to Arkansas. Glenna finished out her high school career in Arkansas where she graduated from Cane Hill High School in 1939.

In 1943, Glenna joined the Army as part of the Women's Army Corp. She was stationed in Los Alamos, NM during the development of the atomic bomb. Glenna met the love of her life, Albert Mayer, an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper sent stateside after being injured in Europe. Glenna and Al were married in Santa Fe, NM on June 2, 1945. After the war was over Al reenlisted in the Air Force. Their life it the Airforce took them to many locations around the United States, including Ohio, Texas, and Montana. Glenna and Al have two children, Sandy and Paul. They had been married 58 years when Al passed away in 2003.

Upon Glennas retirement from the Civilian Service Personnel at Malstrom AFB she was able to dedicate more time to her hobbies. Glenna loved to cook. Rouladen and her many pies were her familys favorites. Glenna spent many hours sewing, quilting, and making dolls. She entered many of her projects in the Montana State Fair and the Sanders County Fair, earning many awards and recognition. Glenna also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Once Al retired, the couple also began to travel. They went to many of Als Army reunions, to Kansas, New Mexico, and Texas to visit family, and all over the Southwestern United States. New Mexico also held a special place in Glennas heart.

Glenna and Al moved to Hot Springs, MT in 1988. Glenna was part of a doll club where she met some good friends. She also spent a lot of time attending her granddaughters events. In her later years, she loved spending quality time with her great-grandson and buddy, Austin, watching old western movies and listening to 1940s music and enjoying her great-granddaughters, Sydnee and Savana.

Glennas last 5 years were spent at Hidden Meadows Memory Care in Columbia Falls. She was happy in the loving care of the many caregivers and enjoyed the many visits from her family.

Glenna was preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, an infant brother, brothers, Ralph Kost and Richard Kost, and sister, Mary Ann Musgrave. She is survived by brothers Marvin Kost, Warren (Joyce) Kost, and Leon Kost; daughter Sandy (Jim) Newman; son Paul (Diana) Mayer; grandchildren Michele (Chris) McGuigan, Mellissa Newman, Mindi (Pat) Wilson, Chris Mayer, Jimmy Mayer, Lynn (Joe) Schares, Laura (Jesse) Mayer, and Michael (Marissa) Mayer; and 10 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Monday, November 23 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Sunset Hills Funeral Home in Plains. Graveside services will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Helena on Tuesday, November 24 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to the Glut1Deficiency Foundation, PO Box 943, Westfield, IN 46074-0943 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Hills Funeral Homes, Plains & Thompson Falls.
