Herbert William Stobie died October 19, 2017 at home surrounded by family. He was 89 years old. He was born in Butte, MT, on February 14, 1928 and was raised at the Stobie Ranch up Thompson River. He attended school mostly in Plains MT. After graduating 8th grade, Herb began working to help support the family. Herb joined the Army and was sent to Korea. During his service he received the Purple Heart, two Silver Stars, and the Bronze Medal. One of Herbs proudest accomplishments in the war was getting all his men out alive. Herb met Juanita LaFleur while he was stationed at Ft. Polk, Louisana, and they were married March 1, 1953. They moved to the Stobie Ranch shortly after that. He is best remembered for his hard work ethic, and kind heart. Herb was highly entertained by scaring people and this odd trait was passed onto his children.
