James Joseph Plante

November 28, 1931 — March 21, 2016

James (Jim) Joseph Plante of Trout Creek passes away March 21, 2016 after a long battle with cancer and other illnesses. He was born Nov. 28, 1931 in Ogema, Minn. to Archie and Minnie Plante, moving to Colorado and then New Mexico and finally to Montana in 1991. Jim served his country as a Marine and after returning home from the service, he started his own trucking company. In 1990 Jim sold his trucks and retired to fulfill his dream of being a farmer in Montana. He loved going out every day and working the land, raising cattle, horses, and hay to feed them.

Jim met his soul mate, Percy, in 1972. Together they raised their children and worked side by side both in New Mexico and Montana. Jim is survived by his wife Percy, three children and nine grandchildren. Son Joe, his children Skyler and Jamie; Lynn and son Dustin; Danny and wife Elva and children Daniel (deceased), Steven, and Brianna; Denise and husband Milton and their three children, Desiree, Matthew, and Tori, all of New Mexico. He is also survived by two of his brothers, Steve and wife Gail of Arkansas, and George of New Mexico and two sisters, Ramona of Colorado and Katherine of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his brothers, Leroy and Otto, niece Danielle, and grandson Daniel.

Jim will be remembered by those closest to him as a hard worker and story teller, a man who loved his country, family and friends. A memorial will be held for Jim at St. Williams Catholic Church, where he was a practicing member, Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m. There will be a luncheon following the mass.

Jim would like to you to remember him when you are haying your fields, feeding your stock, petting your dog or telling a good story!
