Larry 'Sneaky' Spiekermeier Obituary Larry J. Spiekermeier, age 75, lost his hard-fought battle with cancer on Thursday, Feb 2nd at the home he loved in Plains with his family by his side. He was born July 18, 1947 in Fargo, ND to John and Dolores Spiekermeier. In 1975, he moved to Montana where he married Mary Ann Lanier on July 5, 1975 in Hot Springs. In 1977, they made their home in Plains where they raised their family. In 1968, Larry started his 50-year trucking career in Fargo, ND where he worked for Westgo Inc. In 1975, he bought an old Diamond T logging truck hauling logs where he learned the ropes of log hauling from Bud Bras. Bud was also the one who gave Larry the nickname "Sneaky". After a few years, Larry told Mary that if he just had a newer logging truck then he could be home earlier. But he got home so early, he hauled another load and got home even later, because there was always "just one more load". From 1975-1999, he worked for Liebig Logging, Riverside Contracting, Rehbein Transport and MRT Transport. In 1999, his best friend Bill Sprout and Mike Wilson convinced Larry to buy his own truck and lowboy trailer and come work at Whitewood Transport. He did just that and worked 20 years hauling heavy equipment, the bigger and more challenging, the better. He was awarded the Montana Motor Carriers Driver of the Year in 2009 and 2015. In 2017, Whitewood Transport had the honor of hauling the U.S. Capital Christmas Tree. Whitewood selected Sneaky to do the job. Larry always said this was the crown jewel of his driving career. In 2018, Mike made it his mission to have Larry drive a truck in Oahu, HI so he could say he drove for 50 years in 50 states. He loved driving and seeing the country and would tell Mary, "Im on vacation every day." Larry is survived by his wife Mary of Plains; children, Mandy (Jake) Antony of Mapleton, ND; Ryan and Cody of Plains; grandchildren Logan and Cora Antony; sister Barb (Gary) Theisen of Brainerd MN, brothers Jerry (Barb) Spiekermeier and John (Shannon) Spiekermeier of West Fargo, ND; sister-in-law Diane Sodaro of Canton, CT; mother-in-law Aiko Lanier of Plains; and many more beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Larry was preceded in death by his parents John and Dolores and father-in-law Ronnie Lanier. Services Prayer Service Monday February 6, 2023 6:00 PM St James Catholic Church (W.
