Mark Hebrond Hedahl, peacefully left this world on Friday, May 22, 2026, with family by his side.
Mark was born on January 21, 1956 in Libby, MT to Alton and Rosemary Hedahl. He lived atWorland, MT the first few years of his life, until the family was forced to relocate to make roomfor Lake Koocanusa and the Libby Dam. Libby, MT was home to the family from 1960 to 1966when they moved to Hot Springs, MT. Mark graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1974.He met the love of his life, Diane, while attending a church picnic at the Bison Range inSeptember of that year. Mark and Diane began a long distance relationship, exchangingcorrespondence, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in February of 1975, serving with the BigRed 1, First Infantry Division. He served as a turret, track and wheel mechanic, becoming aninstructor at Vilseck, Germany. Love letters flew back and forth across the Atlantic and thecouple became engaged, when he came home on leave in July of 1975. It was the beginningof a love story lasting over 50 years. They married on June 5, 1976 and returned to Germany,where they began their family with the arrival of a daughter, Holly. They were transferredstateside, being stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where a second daughter, Heidi, joined thefamily. Mark was honorably discharged in May of 1979 and they returned to Montana where athird daughter, Heather, was born, followed by a son Travis. Seventeen years later a daughter,Makayla, completed the family.Mark was a devoted husband and a phenomenal Dad and Papa, as indicated by the number ofextra kiddos who chose to claim him. He had a quick wit and an incredible sense of humor,which coupled with his penchant for mischief kept us laughing and on our toes. Mark enjoyedspending time outdoors, fishing, boating, beekeeping and gardening. He trained himself in theart of blacksmithing. He was very creative, whether solving a challenge, making repairs,working with both metal and wood, and even in cooking and baking. When his health began tofail he applied that genius to 3D models and crafts. He was a self taught musician who enjoyedmusic, whether whistling, playing harmonica or listening to his kids and grandkids sing or play.Mark had a dynamic work history and was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of most. He wascapable and dependable, whether delivering propane, building and clearing trails or thinningtrees for the Forest Service, tail-sawing or mill-wrighting at W.I. Forest Products, designing,welding and building cranes, or installing and servicing propane utilities.Mark became a non-traditional student, at the age of 39, when the sawmill he was working forclosed. He attended University of MT College of Technology, becoming certified in welding.Mark volunteered as an EMT with the Thompson Falls Ambulance for several years. Heco-founded the Tree of Hearts, picking up and delivering Christmas gifts for children acrossSanders County.Mark is survived by his wife, Diane, his children: Holly & Todd, Heidi, Heather & Jake, Travis &Mia, Makayla & Salem, as well as, grandchildren: Rebekah, Erik, Parker, Arabella, William,Cohen, Kye, Bailey, and Rilynn, numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, ‘out-laws’, and friends.He was proceeded in death by his parents, a sister: Allyson, brothers: Kris and Doug, andgrandson: Caiden “Squish”.A Celebration of Life, including a potluck reception, will be held at the New Life Fellowship Hallon Airport Road in Thompson Falls, MT on Saturday, June 20th beginning at 3:00PM.
