Ellen June Elrod was born August 26, 1944 in Lawrence, Michigan to Roger and Donna Field Quakenbush. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1962. After High School Ellen purchased a 1969 Chevy Corvette that she raced in Pylon Races in Italy. Her motto was “I never enter a race I don’t win.” While in Italy she worked as a civilian in the military supply depot where she decided to join the military. She was stationed in Vicksburg, Germany where she served for three years.
While she was in Vicksburg she met Duane Elrod in 1974. They dated for three years and were married on June 26th, 1977. While Duane served in Vietnam, Ellen retired from the military and worked on her college credits.
Ellen moved back to the U.S. where Duane II and Diana were born on December 20, 1979. William joined the family on January 4, 1981, and then they moved back to Germany where they had Shane on October 20, 1987. Soon after they retired and moved to Plains, Montana where they have been ever since.
Ellen enjoyed many hobbies such as bowling, knitting, leather working, cross stitching, hunting and reading. She was an avid Zelda player and a movie buff.
Ellen has nine grandsons and eight granddaughters.
Ellen passed away on January 19, 2019. She will be missed during this temporary separation.
