Marie Hartman Obituary

Marie (Ravet) Hartman, beloved mother of seven, grandmother of 16, and great grandmother of seven, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021. With grace and dignity at the age of 81 she succumbed to her extended illness.

Marie was born in Bozeman, Montana, on Aug. 19, 1939, to John and Anna Ravet. She grew up on the family ranch with her two brothers, Francis and Henry, and her younger sister, Bonnie.

Marie was active in 4-H and campfire in her early years. After graduation from Gallatin County High school Marie attended Montana State University.

Marie married Thomas Hartman on Dec. 22, 1959, in Bozeman. Marie and Tom moved their family to Plains in 1968.

Marie was one of the original employees of the Clark Fork Valley Hospital that was built in 1971. She started in the lab as an assistant. Over the years she gained certifications in medical technology, radiology and ultrasound and ultimately became supervisor of outpatient services for Plains and Superior hospitals.

Marie lost her husband, Thomas, in 1978 to an accident. She showed great courage and strength raising her seven children. Her family is tightly bounded because of her strength and faith.

Marie dedicated 30-plus years of service to Clark Fork Valley Hospital and served on the hospital board into her 80s.

Upon retirement she pursued her interest of quilting and gardening. She spent many hours with her children and their families camping and celebrating the family’s special moments in life.

She loved to be called GG and found immense pleasure spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie spent many hours making quilts for her family as well as spending time out in her lavender patch and garden.

Marie was a member of the St. James Catholic church for fifty-three years. In recent times she served as church organist, Altar Society member and president. The faith that Marie carried with her helped to sustain her through difficult times in her life.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents Anna (Fonk) and John Ravet, her siblings Henry and Francis Ravet, and her husband Thomas Hartman. Marie is survived by her sister Bonnie Bednar of Omaha, Nebraska, and seven children, Alice Burchak of Shelby, Montana, Robert and Ruth Hartman of Cascade, Montana, Scott and Courtney Hartman of Missoula, Montana, Carrie and Paul McHugh of Kalispell, Montana, Mary and Randy Spridgeon of Athol, Idaho, Lisa Black of Belgrade, Montana, and Jill and Humberto Flores of Belgrade, Montana. Marie is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 followed by graveside services at the Plains Cemetery.
